For over 90 years, Lacoste has been at the forefront of British culture and fashion. The brand’s roots can be traced back to 1923 when French professional tennis player René Lacoste lost a bet for a crocodile skin suitcase. It was a nickname that would stick and eventually, in 1933, he would emblazon the now iconic logo onto a plain white polo shirt. The rest is history.
Originally developed as a sports shirt for tennis, the material was a lot more breathable than the regular shirts, meaning players would sweat less. The shorter sleeves were also unheard of but allowed for greater range of motion and flexibility. In short, Lacoste was taking over the world of tennis, and it had the fashion world in its sights…
Lacoste’s signature polo shirts quickly became a must-have look outside of the court. The range of colours and high-quality fabrics meant they were easy to style and comfy to wear. Soon, the brand went international and could be found all over the world. From Japan to Germany, Egypt to the USA, Lacoste is now a global brand.
Alongside the polo shirts is an extensive range of must-cop clothing, footwear and accessories for men, women and kids. With tracksuits, sweatshirts, tees, hoodies, trainers, caps and loads more, shop the full Lacoste Ireland range right now at JD!
